Text message alerts and opt-in

Shear Weather Alerts is a text-messaging program operated by Samninety, LLC for the public-safety agencies and organizations that use the Shear service. It sends severe-weather warnings and emergency notifications to people in an affected area. This page explains how someone consents to receive those texts and how to stop them.

How you opt in

Shear never texts a phone number until the person who owns it has explicitly agreed. Consent is collected like this:

1. An authorized administrator at the agency that serves your area adds your mobile number to its recipient directory. No text message is sent at this point.
2. We email you to let you know your number was added and to ask whether you want to receive text alerts.
3. You open the link in that email and choose "I agree to receive text alerts." This records your consent with a timestamp.
4. Only after you opt in do you begin receiving alerts. If you never agree, you are never texted.

How to opt out or get help

Reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe at any time. You will receive one confirmation that you have been unsubscribed and then no further messages. Reply HELP for help, or email support@shearwx.com.

Your privacy

We do not sell or share your mobile opt-in information or phone number with third parties for their own marketing. Numbers are used only to deliver the alerts your agency has configured. See our Privacy Policy and Terms for more.
